There’s nothing more visionary than Speak in Code, a hidden bar in Manchester City Centre. This is where quality alcohol brings forth creatively crafted cocktails that tell a story.

The menu is truly inventive, the kind you can tell is meticulously planned. It also pairs well with the vibe—cosy, inviting, and unpretentious. The dimly lit bar offers just the right escape from work on a Monday night.

A cocktail that has the right zing is Demo 13 (available in a non-alcoholic version), a green-coloured drink made with their own gin (produced by Portobello Road Distillery), miso, and honeydew melon. Not a mix you think would work, but surprisingly, it does!

Pro Tip:

You can get in without a reservation on a Monday, but since the bar is small, it’s still recommended to book an online reservation. It’s also highly recommended if you prefer the table to sitting on the bar stool.

A must-visit bar in Manchester that’s open on Mondays is The Gas Lamp, a not-so-hidden subterranean drinking den in a Victorian building in Spinningfields. It’s a bit special in that it feels very local—casual, unpretentious, and full of good beer.

Upon walking in, you’ll be greeted with tiled walls, displays that tell the history of the place, and new beer releases from Pomona Island. You’ll find quite a bit of unique beer selections, which is where this bar truly shines!

There’s something new here, too! The cocktail of the month is a nice feature if you don’t fancy a beer. There’s a bunch of breweries as well, so there’s basically a drink for every single taste, whether you want an IPA or a lager!

The Castle Hotel is a classic bar in Manchester. It’s a staple in the neighbourhood, having opened way back in 1776. But it’s more than just a bar—it’s a creative hub with a lively music scene where talented musicians promote their works.

The atmosphere feels very much like a classic pub—laid-back yet intimate with a good selection of quality ales and a very traditional English decor with vintage pieces. It’s the place to be if you want to spice up your Monday.

You’ll find yourself scratching your head over which beer to try because there are loads. Have a go at Titanic Brewery’s popular Plum Porter, a well-rounded ale with delicate notes of plum and hints of bitterness on the side.

Pro Tip:

If you want to watch musicians perform, check out the website’s events page. Artists are usually there on weekends, but Monday performances are sprinkled here and there.

Arcane is an after-work bar for your Monday where you can relax after a tiring day in the office. Located in the Queen’s Chambers building, this drinking den still retains the original Victorian fixtures but has been designed with a bit of a modern vibe.

On weekdays, it also has a low-key vibe for drinks and conversations with your mates. This is also the perfect bar on a Monday if you want to taste a twist on the classic cocktails.

If you like tequila, the Thai Picante is a strong drink with spicy and zesty notes. And if cocktails aren’t your jam, there’s a selection of beers for the ale enthusiasts. Somehow, they’ve perfected the proper Guinness pour, too!

Pro Tip:

Although this is a dog-friendly place, we would avoid staying late with our pup because it can get quite noisy.
