The 5 Best Wedding Cakes in Manchester for Your Special Day

  • Experience - Our preferred bakers and bakeries boast extensive experience crafting wedding cakes (and cakes for everyday celebrations). We reviewed each shop’s portfolio and considered genuine customer reviews.
  • Professionalism - Top-notch wedding cake suppliers should have a well-organised operation and be highly communicative with clients. This helps ensure reliability—making the cake one less thing for busy brides (and grooms) to worry about.
  • Skill and Creativity - Special days deserve nothing but the finest cakes. The bakers we chose are incredibly skilled and creative, producing stunning and jaw-dropping wedding cakes—whether from a set catalogue of designs or customised to a specific theme.
  • Tastiness of product - Besides looks, a cake truly shines when it’s delicious. This is why we ensured that the shops on our list have banging recipes!
  • Pricing - We know a wedding cake isn’t something you skimp on, so we selected our bakers based on the value for money they offer, regardless of the size, complexity, or cost of the final masterpiece.

We all love a good cake, don’t we? Birthday cakes are splendid and tasty, but when it actually comes to the grandest of desserts, wedding cakes are the true showstoppers.

Given the sheer size and natural complexity of creating these confections, it’s quite typical for soon-to-be-wed couples to sort theirs out several months in advance. A wedding cake doesn’t come cheap either, so finding the best baker for the job is crucial.

So, we’ve gathered our most sweet-toothed mates and had a mooch around Manchester’s finest wedding cake shops and bakers.

Independent baker Abbie’s Kitchen is making its mark in Manchester’s wedding community with its pretty and scrumptious cakes. Owned and operated by one-woman team Abbie, this shop gives soon-to-be-newlyweds stunning creations on their special day.

Abbie’s greatest strength is her talent for crafting cakes as beautiful as the weddings they grace, all at industry-standard pricing.

Her design forte is of elegant floral designs (can be the real thing or icing) over a white cake base—pretty simple. Simplicity is usually best, but we’d completely understand if you look elsewhere for something more flashy.

Nonetheless, the proverbial icing on the cake is Abbie’s approach to business. We’re in awe of how friendly, kind, and punctual she is in updating clients about their orders despite her busy schedule, ensuring cakes arrive right on time.

That said, she’s no machine—she needs downtime for a couple of days a week, just like the rest of us!

Pros

  • Beautiful and delicious cakes
  • Industry-standard pricing
  • Elegant floral cake designs
  • Personalised, great customer service

Cons

  • Niche design style
  • Limited availability

Beautiful and tasty cakes done professionally

“We were so pleased with our wedding cake from Abbie. She listened to our ideas and gave advice, she was extremely professional throughout, liaised with our florist, and met our brief exactly. So many of our guests commented on how beautiful it looked and how great it tasted.”

Jean Akhurst, Google Review

Incredible and delicious cakes

“Abbie made our wedding cake in December. It has two tiers, one chocolate and one salted caramel and it was absolutely perfect. Not only did it look incredible, it also tasted divine. We can highly recommend.”

Johanna’s Caketastic Creations has been whipping up stunning celebration cakes since 2011. With wedding cakes being one of her specialities, she’s helped countless couples mark their big day with cakes that are both immaculate and downright tasty.

Full disclosure—we featured Johanna’s shop before as one of the best cake delivery spots in Manchester, and her wedding cake game is strong enough to deserve another shoutout!

What we love most is how hands-on and personalised the ordering process here is. Once Johanna confirms availability for your wedding date, she’ll work closely with you on the design and flavours to use, with dedicated checkpoints in the months leading up to the big day.

Beyond the attention to detail, her cakes offer great value, with more slices yielded than most competitors. That said, don’t expect vegan or dairy-free options—Johanna keeps things classic, and honestly, we respect the commitment to recipes she does best!

Pros

  • Over 10 years in business
  • Highly personalised wedding cakes
  • Great value for money
  • Immaculate cake designs

Cons

  • No vegan or dairy-free options
  • Not for rush orders

Lovely wedding cake and service

“Johanna made a beautiful three tier cake for our wedding. Each tier was a different flavour: lemon, chocolate & Victoria sponge. All were delicious. […] I was a simple design and she dressed it with fresh flowers. It was perfect 🙂 Johanna is lovely to deal with, very flexible & delivered the cake to the venue on the day. I would highly recommend to others. Thank you Johanna!”

Cakes beyond expectations

“Johanna is fantastic. We’ve had a wedding cake made by her before, this time I had a surprise birthday cake for my wife plus cupcakes. Words can’t say how good the cake and cupcakes were. The design went beyond my expectation.”

KiwiCakes is the labour of love of NZ expat, Jo. Starting small from her home kitchen in 2019, she has since grown her business beyond orders of celebration cakes from friends and family—now her customers come from many areas in and around Manchester.

Her overall ethos is centred on fulfilling customer cake requests as beautifully and reasonably as possible, and we deeply admire her for that commitment.

For example, if one needs a gluten-free wedding cake or has other special requirements, Jo will gladly accommodate to ensure that customer gets exactly what they need.

Since KiwiCakes is a relative newcomer, it’s not surprising that Jo also has the flexibility to take on last-minute orders. Her dedication to customisation is impressive, but we do wonder how sustainable her approach will be as demand increases.

While we hope she maintains this level of attention to orders, we’ll completely understand if she eventually chooses efficiency over the warm feeling of triumph from fulfilling urgent requests.

Pros

  • Passion-driven business
  • Highly personalised and flexible customer service
  • Stunning and delicious cakes

Cons

  • Industry newcomer

Stunning and delicious wedding cakes

“I recently used KiwiCakes for our wedding cake and cupcakes and was so pleased! Not only did they look beautiful, they tasted wonderful too. Our guests had several allergies we wanted to accommodate so everyone could enjoy the cakes. Jo was happy to accommodate the allergens and did so without compromising the flavour/quality. They were stunning!”

Savanna Hanly, Google Review

For those who love classic-looking wedding and celebration cakes, Opera Cakes & Desserts is a solid choice we recommend. While its designs might not be as flashy or intricate as some of its high-end competitors, the flavour and top-notch customer more than make up for it.

A true local gem indeed, Opera Cakes thrives on community love. Unlike big-name bakery chains, it can focus more on personalised requests, ensuring a bespoke cake that’s worth your hard-earned quid.

That said, the shop has a distinct style for wedding cakes (think of roses draped on one side of a three-tiered white cake—looks quite dated if you ask us), so it’s best to manage expectations. But there’s no harm in asking for tweaks to this to suit your vision!

So, if you’re in or around Longsight, we definitely recommend giving Opera Cakes a visit—you might just find your perfect, no-fuss wedding cake.

Pros

  • Locally-loved bakery
  • Good value for money
  • Great customer service

Cons

  • Dated, less flashy cake designs

Meticulously follows requested designs

“We order a custom made cake from there. They try their best to make exactly look like cake we show them.”

Shakh Sabber Ahmed, Google Review

Cake just as the customer envisioned it

“Absolutely delicious cake! Exactly how I invisioned [sic] it to be and my guests love it. Would highly recommend and will most definitely buy more cakes!”

The Palms Bakery might just be the most intriguing entry on our list—both for its one-of-a-kind cakes and its unconventional business setup. Nonetheless, if you’re after a wedding cake that truly stands out, this is the place to get it from.

As quirky as its designs are, we’re surprised by how varied the cake styles here are. Whether you’ll fancy looking classic, doing a throwback with something retro, or going all trippy, the Palms Bakery offers a dazzling array of options (and flavours) for different couples’ personalities.

If you’re still wondering what else is special about this bakery: it’s the shop location. It operates out of a repurposed shipping container park, which perfectly matches its creative ethos.

Moreover, there aren’t any ready-made cakes off the till (yes, even those small cakes great for gifting to tea aficionados are nowhere in sight). Every cake is made to order at the Palms.

Add in stellar customer service, and that rounds off an experience as unique as the cake itself.

Pros

  • Unique and creative wedding cakes
  • Great customer service
  • Intriguing business setup

Cons

  • Not for urgent orders

A customer in love with the cake

“We chose The Palms Bakery for our wedding after a friend saw them on Instagram. We instantly fell in love and knew we needed their cake for our day! From start to finish Rachel designed the perfect cake and then kept in touch about colours, flavours, and delivery. The end result was more than we could have hoped for. We definitely recommend and the whole thing was delicious!”

Found it hard to decide on cake flavour—in a good way

“We got our beautiful wedding cake from here, after receiving a cake sample box. It was very hard to choose from the samples – they were all delicious. The cake we did end up choosing went down so well with guests, so can’t recommend highly enough.”
