This off-the-beaten-path destination is super quiet—there are only 8 lodges, by the way, which adds to the secluded feel!

And the hot tub? Immaculate! But that’s because of the overall vibe of the place. The serene environment will make your trip very relaxing, like you almost don’t want to leave—well, except when you need a good phone signal.

When you feel like exploring the nearby towns, we suggest Glossop, which is just a 10 to 15-minute drive away. However, the road going out will make you want to stay in the lodge.

Pro Tip:
Boggard Lane is a single road. Avoid driving at night and be careful because there’s no space for two cars to use the road simultaneously.

Guess what else? The lodges are pet-friendly! The only thing you need to bring is food because there’s a fully equipped kitchen, but it is close to Greenfield Village (a 3-minute drive), so just head to the pub if you don’t want to cook.

Delamere Lake Sailing & Holiday Park is a retreat with lakefront views—well, at least most of them. You’ll stay in a luxury place, which is made exactly like a holiday house, which you can also buy—but with our budget, we just went on a vacation.

This Cheshire destination is the perfect place for families who love a quiet space to unwind away from the middle of it all. It sits in the woodlands right in front of a lake—just the perfect setting!

The location also means you get beach access, where you can go paddleboarding, but the hot tub’s right there if the water’s too cold. The hot tub is in the decking area, so if you get a waterfront lodge, you can enjoy the view!

Pro Tip:
Bring your own bath amenities and extra toilet paper rolls. You only get 2 rolls here, which won’t last you a weekend if you’re coming with a group.

It feels very much like a countryside retreat—surrounded by trees so your stay is serene. The best part? You can take it all in while taking a dip in the 50-jet hot tub (which is so roomy, by the way) on the private deck.

There’s a path in the woods that will take you to Rudyard Lake, but you can’t swim here so just admire the view—or go to Leek for outdoor activities. You can bring your dog with you and let them roam the gardens in the lodge—yes, they can go off-lead here!

Pro Tip:
For food, take a short detour to the town of Leek. There’s a Sainsbury’s there that delivers groceries, but we recommend checking out the Leek Butter and Trestle Market for fresh meats and homemade treats.

Since it’s in Ribble Valley, you can enjoy picturesque walks, local pub grubs, and farmer’s markets. It’s also near Wood End Alpacas, a farm just half an hour’s drive, where we met alpacas, sheep, and a cute pony!

You can’t leave without taking a stroll at Pendle Hill, a haunting place connected to the Pendle Witch Trials, and Tolkien Trail, which is said to have inspired J.R.R. Tolkien.

There are local shoots in the surrounding area, which you can avoid by not booking from October to January.

Plus, you’re literally in a forest, tucked away in Christmas tree land on a farm. But the best thing about this destination is the on-site shop, The Hollies Farm Shop, where you can treat yourself to local goods, such as freshly baked bread and local meats!

It’s only half an hour’s drive from the Cheshire Zoo, making it a great stop for families—we did enjoy it even without kids! The lodge is only a couple of miles away from local attractions, but you do need to plan to make the drive worthwhile.

Longnor Wood Holiday Park is not your usual holiday destination—this is actually an adults-only and dog-friendly place! What’s unique about this campsite is the layout because aside from lodges, there are tents, glamping pods, and static caravans.

The lodges have enough room for 2 adults and a dog, and there’s privacy when you use the hot tub—you’ll be facing the trees and not your neighbours. If you want something a bit different, we suggest the caravan, which has a motorhome feel but with a hot tub!

There’s no shortage of activities, too. Just half an hour away, you’ll find loads of attractions from every angle, like the Chatsworth Estate, Goyt Valley, and Pavilion Gardens. At night, when the sky is at its darkest, go to the deck for stargazing.

Pro Tip:
Before booking, ask the staff if your dog is allowed. There’s a “no dangerous breed” policy, so we recommend checking with them first to avoid disappointment.

It’s like an adult treehouse, but instead of playing, you get to relax and enjoy the views while soaking in a hot tub. Sure, it’s not as spacious as your usual lodge, but it still has a fully equipped kitchen, wine cooler, en-suite bathroom, and a decking area.

It’s an incredible place to return to after a day exploring the premises. You don’t even have to leave the lodge because there’s an on-site restaurant, bar, and shop.

Plus, there’s very little light pollution in this area—you can see the stars at night, which you don’t normally get in the city!

Who could say no to a North Yorkshire countryside holiday? We sure didn’t! There’s something special about a countryside escape, where the scenery is stunning and the lodges are secluded.

Located roughly 2 hours from Manchester, Woodlands Lakes Lodges has private hot tubs that’ll make you forget all the city fuss (we sure did!). Our relaxing holiday was elevated after getting a massage at the on-site spa—talk about a luxury staycation!

A countryside trip is paired with fishing (there’s a total of 13 lakes here that are stocked with fish). We do recommend checking out the rest of Thirsk, or Ripon for its gorgeous historic sites.

You don’t even have to leave the lodge to enjoy your stay. There are plenty of activities for families, like archery, axe throwing, swimming lessons, and Nerf challenges.

Pro Tip:
Book your experiences/activities online to ensure you get a spot during your stay, especially when it’s summer. Most of the activities are catered to kids.

Download the map of the area because phone signals can be spotty in some places.
