Where to Eat in Sale [Our 20 Favourite Spots We Know You’ll Love!]
About a decade ago, who would’ve thought that Sale, of all towns in Manchester, would blossom into a culinary gem? I even remember my first visit to the town as a kid—and yes, like any other child, I had little interest and just wanted to go to the toy store!
Please accept my official apology, residents of Sale. As we’ve explored the town’s best places to eat, I’ve come to realize that properly enjoying Sale is an unforgettable experience; you just need to know the RIGHT places to go.
Without further ado, here’s a list of the top restaurants in Sale to get scrumptious meals!

The Perfect Match is a charming bistro specializing in British cuisine, owned and operated by partners Andrea, a sommelier, and Jazz, a chef, who met while working at Chef Gordon Ramsay’s renowned restaurant, The Savoy in London.
The place may look simple, but it has a sublime quality that rivals Michelin-starred restaurants. Given the calibre of its proprietors, that’s not surprising at all.
As for the food, it’s definitely a standout in our books. The food and wine pairings are a carefully curated perfect match. We’ll leave the rest to you to discover this spot’s flavours yourself—a hint: go on a Sunday for the roast.
Pro tip:
Given that The Perfect Match is a specialized enterprise, reservations are essential to be able to try out a meal.
Veranda

Address: 16 Northenden Rd, M33 3BR
Contact details: 0161 282 7200
Operating hours: Daily – 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Pricing: ££
Veranda brings its own twist to Mediterranean and Lebanese casual dining in Sale with a mix of hearty meals and lively decor. The neon pink nameplate by the entrance contrasts perfectly with the regal ambiance of the rest of the premises, piquing diners’ interest in what’s to come.
The lamb chops, while typical for this type of restaurant, are still a solid choice for first-timers. However, if you’re dining as a pair like a colleague and I did, opt for the Veranda special grill to get a better (and tastier) sample of the grilled dishes at this spot.
Pro tip:
Make the most of Veranda’s early bird promo, available on weekdays from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The menu offers a delightful variety of mezze and main dish selections.
The Fat Loaf

The wine-filled walls of the Fat Loaf greet every visitor with a cheeky sign that a good time awaits. And honestly, they’re not wrong—good food, service, and drinks are done brilliantly here.
Fat Loaf’s menu is short but sweet and features a mix of British, Italian, and Mexican favourites. For a classic taste, try the steak and ale pie on a weekday, or the Sunday roast beef, chicken, or duck.
While you’re waiting for the food, Fat Loaf’s open kitchen setting lets you see the chefs in action. Have a chat with them or just watch those effortless-looking cooking techniques.
Pro tip:
Keep yourself posted with the Fat Loaf’s special menus and promos via its website and social media page!

Chez Nous (French for “our place”) is a must-visit dining spot in Sale. This bistro offers a delightful take on British classics and boasts a cosy ambiance, complete with an all-wood interior and a captivating floor-to-ceiling bookcase that occupies an entire wall of the place.
We found out that the steaks here are highly recommended. The à la carte grilled sirloin, rump, and fillet are all flavourful options (though your personal taste may vary, of course).
For a lighter meat option, try the gammon steak. The cured pork comes with eggs, dressed leaves, and English mustard, delivering a burst of flavour in every bite.
Pro tip:
Chez Nous has house wines and drinks, but on Wednesdays and Thursdays, diners can bring their own wine for a corkage fee of £1 per bottle. Please note that food must still come from the restaurant, and this promotion is only available on regular days, not holidays.
Borello
Media from Borello
Address: 7 School Rd, M33 7XY
Contact details: 0161 962 4455
Operating hours:
- Monday to Thursday – 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- Friday and Saturday – 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM
- Sunday – 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Pricing: ££
Borello is a charming Italian restaurant that transports you to the Apennine Peninsula with its stucco-coloured walls, pristine murals of iconic Italian architecture, and elegant glass chandeliers.
The food here matches the authentic feel of the interiors. While your nonna’s cooking may still reign supreme (it’s made with more love, after all!), Borello’s dishes are a worthy contender for your next favourite meal.
Enjoy a heaping serving of Borello’s spaghetti bolognese or lasagna with a cheese and tomato pizza when you opt for the early bird set meal. For an additional fee, you can also indulge in a serving of smooth panna cotta for dessert.
Pro tip:
For Borello’s early bird lunch and dinner menu items, payment is only accepted in cash. However, you can use your card for everything else on the main menu.
Linguine Restaurant
Address: 20 Northenden Rd, M33 3BR
Contact details: 0161 825 0336
Operating hours:
- Monday to Thursday – 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- Friday and Saturday – 4:00 PM to 10:30 PM
- Sunday – 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM
Pricing: ££
Another Italian gem on our list is Linguine Restaurant. The modern vibe, with its wavy and floral motif, is both classy and pleasing to the eyes.
The early bird menu is a great choice to have, available from the moment the restaurant opens until three or four hours into the day. However, if you’re looking forward to pairing your meal with wine, you can’t—unless you bring your own bottle.
Standout dishes include the spaghetti carbonara alla pollo (chicken carbonara) and the ravioli ricotta e spinaci (spinach ravioli), both made with home-made goodness. The balance of serving size and value for money is as sweet as Linguine’s tiramisu.
Pro tip:
Enjoy your meal in a different, more natural light by dining at Linguine’s al fresco area in front of the shop.
Petisco
Media from Petisco
Address: 56 Stanley Square, M33 7XZ

- Friday and Saturday – 12:00 PM to 11:30 PM
- Sunday – 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM
- Monday and Tuesday – CLOSED
Pricing: £££
Portuguese speakers might already know what’s in store for them the moment they read this restaurant’s name. Petisco specializes in Portuguese dining, with “petiscos” (small plates) taking centre stage on its menu.
This spot takes utmost inspiration from bars in the Iberian Peninsula, which means that it’s a great place to bring friends with for a night out in Sale.
It’s best to order two or three petiscos per person for a filling meal. We recommend the meatballs made with wild boar and beef, as well as the roasted new potatoes drenched in caramelised onion sauce, among the other banging plates here.
Pro tip:
To save you and your friends some thinking bandwidth, grab one of the group menus—already with pre-curated options and available in regular and premium tiers.
IndianHouse
Media from @lifeinsale
Address: 6 Hereford St, M33 7XN
Contact details: 07492 666000
Operating hours:
- Monday – 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM
- Tuesday to Sunday – 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM
Pricing: £
It’s surprising that we got this far down the list without mentioning an Indian restaurant. Nonetheless, IndianHouse is a solid choice for curry or tandoori in Sale!
As one of two branches, Sale IndianHouse offers classic Indian cuisine, including the well-esteemed gongura mutton curry, best enjoyed with rice or naan. However, this dish is seasonal, so check its availability online or call the restaurant beforehand to check.
If you prefer white meat, IndianHouse’s chicken majestic is a great option. This dish features tender chicken strips that are creamy, spicy, and savoury, thanks to its yogurt sauce and spices.
Pro tip:
Be sure to bring a friend (or two) to dine here. The portions are pretty generous for one tum!
Cowtown Grill
Media from Cowtown Grill
Address: 85 Washway Rd, M33 7TQ

Operating hours:
- Monday to Friday – 4:30 PM to 11:30 PM
- Saturday – 2:00 PM to 11:30 PM
- Sunday – 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
Pricing: £
Get a taste of authentic North American-style snacks, burgers, and meats at Cowtown Grill at Washway Road. The place surely looks as if you’ve just walked into an old-town community watering hole overseas, and we love it!
Cowtown’s spacious setting makes it perfect for group dining. Therefore, it just seems right that the most popular thing to get is the poutine—it’s chips with cheese curds and gravy if you haven’t heard—the shop even has multiple twists of these!
Don’t miss the burgers and hot dogs, a clear homage to the good ‘ol US of A. If you’re feeling adventurous, try Cowtown’s grilled steaks.
Pro tip:
Not a fan of carbs? Enjoy the chicken wing starter with creamy blue cheese sauce for a great value while sticking to your diet.
Piano Bar & Restaurant
Media from Piano bar and restaurant
Address: 9 School Rd, M33 7XY
Contact details: 0161 962 1490
Operating hours:
- Tuesday to Thursday – 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- Friday and Saturday – 12:30 PM to 10:00 PM
- Sunday – 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM
- Monday – CLOSED
Pricing: £££
Piano is a lovely modern Italian restaurant that promises tasty food made from locally-sourced ingredients and great company.
Entering the premises for the first time filled us with a good mood for the calming piano music (I guess it comes with the name) and its relatively simple yet still lovely interiors.
As for the Italian delights, we can’t recommend the risottos and pizzas enough. Call us normies influenced by that TV show with THAT screaming chef, but the risotto pollo pesto (chicken and pesto risotto) we got at Piano had the sublime balance of salt, umami, and rice cooked just right.
If you’re coming in early, the two-course early bird menu with simple starters and a pasta or chicken plate is also a good call.
Pro tip:
Get the tiramisu for dessert. You’ll thank us later!
Rudy’s Pizza Napoletana
Media from Rudy’s Pizza Napoletana
Address: 2 Northenden Rd, M33 3BR
Contact details: 0161 969 0196
Operating hours:
- Sunday to Thursday – 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM
- Friday and Saturday – 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Pricing: £
If Rudy’s well-seasoned interiors aren’t enough to show how great the pizzas are, we don’t know what is. While the design might need a refresh, the food and service are fantastic.
Visit Rudy’s and try any of its pizzas, available in vegan and non-vegan options. The servings are reasonably priced, giving you great value for your money.
We especially loved the margherita con bufala, made with authentic buffalo cheese from Italy’s Campania region. Spice it up a bit with Rudy’s signature chilli honey dip, then cap it all off with an affogato or tiramisu, and you’re golden.
Pro tip:
Get ready for Rudy’s monthly pizza specials, featuring new flavours crafted with other great chefs.
Sokrates Taverna – Sale
Media from Sokrates Taverna Sale
Address: 25A Northenden Rd, M33 2DH
Contact details: 0161 282 0050
Operating hours:
- Tuesday to Thursday – 5:30 PM to 11:00 PM
- Friday and Saturday – 5:30 PM to 12:00 AM
- Sunday and Monday – CLOSED
Pricing: ££
Sokrates Taverna has a laid-back vibe typical of any restaurant in the Peloponnese, but the food and drinks are the real highlights!
The taverna’s menu is aptly-sized and filled with traditional Greek dishes like the crowd favourite mousaka, which already comes with salad on the side. For something a bit fancier, pre-order the house version of the Cyprian specialty, lamb kleftiko, at least 24 hours in advance.
For drinks, pair your meal with the traditional retsina (Greek wine) called kourtaki. This well-balanced pine-flavoured wine complements the food beautifully, leaving the palate refreshed for another bite.
Pro tip:
Sokrates Taverna requires a minimum order of £12, which excludes cost for drinks and dessert. Honestly, we think that’s just fair since most of the menu items are reasonably priced for the great effort given to create them.
PizzAmmore Napoli
Media from 155cm life
Address: 20 School Rd, M33 7XF
Contact details: 0161 637 1760
Operating hours:
- Sunday to Thursday – 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM
- Friday and Saturday – 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Pricing: £
For Italian bites that are still pizza-adjacent in Sale, visit PizzAmmore Napoli. This local pizzeria is especially great for getting a quick yet filling afternoon snack.
Why “pizza-adjacent?” The standout at PizzAmmore is actually the colzone (calzone), available in cheesy and spicy flavours.
Additionally, the pizza fritta from the street food menu is a must-try—it’s a margherita pizza folded and deep-fried like a calzone! It’s traditionally food for the poor, but in this setting it won’t taste nor feel like it.
Of course, you can always enjoy the comfort of an authentic pizza, like the Napoli.
Pro tip:
PizzAmmore’s chips (yes, the British favourite) are a must-try! Perfect for dining with picky eaters.
Us Four
Media from US FOUR

- Sunday to Thursday – 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
- Friday – 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM
- Saturday – 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM
Pricing: £
Perhaps the only actual café on our list (maybe we’ll feature more down the road of updates), Us Four is a lovely American-themed establishment that caters to the perpetually caffeinated. The red and green motif and vintage decor will bring you back to 1950s USA.
Given Us Four’s drink-heavy menu, milkshakes are the crowd favourite. These are available in over 10 tasty flavours, including speciality ones like Oreo, Kinder Bueno, and KitKat.
The snacks are also delightful. There are bagels and toasted sandwiches with select fillings that may vary per day and also complement the basic cup of joe or tea.
Pro tip:
Us Four is beloved by its local community and hosts events like workshops and movie nights. Follow its social media for the latest info on events you can join!

- Sunday – 12:00 to 3:00 PM, 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- Monday – CLOSED
Pricing: £
The way Dosa Kingss’ name is spelled might seem like a mistake, but it’s definitely not when it comes to choosing it for lunch or dinner if you’re craving Indian food.
Enjoy some of the best South Indian cuisine within its lively yellow walls, adorned with modern decor that still has an Asian touch. Start with the masala dosa to kick off an epic meal, then follow it up with a plate of chicken biryani—hope you like it spicy!
For dessert, there are several kulfi variants on the menu to cool you down, but we also urge you to try the milky bread balls called gulab jamun, as they’re quite hard to find elsewhere.
Pro tip:
Dosa Kingss has a weekend buffet! Make sure to book your seats in advance because they run out fast.
Thai Chill Restaurant
Media from @thaichilluk

Operating hours:
- Monday – 4:00 PM to 9:30 PM
- Tuesday to Sunday – 12:30 PM to 9:30 PM
Pricing: ££
When you’re tired of the usual Brit or Indian street food, Sale offers plenty of other choices, like authentic Thai and East Asian cuisine at Thai Chill. This spot might look plain compared to others, but the food and service is fantastic.
Brace your taste buds for the milder spice of Thai Chill’s Massaman Curry, enriched with peanuts and traditional Thai red curry paste. If you prefer umami flavour, try the Thai-style Hainanese chicken rice or the quintessential pad thai fried noodles.
To top it all off, Thai Chill’s mango sticky rice is also a must-try, with its banging mix of mild sweet and sour flavours refreshing to the palate.
Pro tip:
If you’re adventurous, try the durian ice cream! We’re not sure how long Thai Chill will have it on the menu, so grab one as soon as you can.
Yard Burgers Mcr
Media from Yard Burgers Mcr

Contact details: 0161 399 0263
Operating hours:
- Tuesday to Saturday – 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM
- Sunday and Monday – CLOSED
Pricing: £
Yard Burgers Mcr might look dodgy at first, but it’s a hidden gem worth the detour to Sale’s residential areas. This one-man burger shop in a metal shipping container, in the middle of an unassuming car park, serves some of the best burgers we’ve ever had.
The menu is short and sweet, with the signature Dirty Manc burger taking centre stage. This hearty concoction of two smashed beef patties, American cheese, lettuce, pickles, and the shop’s signature Dirty Manc sauce is a must-try.
Make sure to get there early as the daily stock is limited, and you’re competing with many other avid customers!
Pro tip:
Yard Burgers Mcr’s proprietor is a lovely lad who occasionally closes the shop for a couple of days on special occasions or to get some R&R. Check the shop’s social media for updates on its operating schedule before visiting!

- Sunday and Monday – CLOSED
Pricing: £
The phrase “When in Rome, do as the Romans do” is one way to sum up the dining experience at Ceresis.
This pizzeria in Sale offers a unique version of the beloved Italian icon, called pizza al taglio romana. It’s a thick crust rectangular pizza authentically done as it is in Rome and cut into squares for serving.
The essential margherita is the best topping to let the natural flavours of the ingredients shine through in every bite. But other toppings available on your visit are also great for appreciating the delicate, yet crisp consistency of the crust made with stone ground enkir (einkorn) and spelt.
Also give the focaccia with some porketta (porchetta) a try and see the Roman difference.
Pro tip:
Eating in is great, but don’t forget to take some Ceresis pizza and focaccia home—trust us, you’ll be craving them for days!
Fortune House
Media from Fortune House

Operating hours:
- Wednesday to Saturday – 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- Sunday – 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM
- Monday and Tuesday – CLOSED
Pricing: £
The red doors and windows of Fortune House are signs enough for you to come in, because this simplicity just screams authentic Chinese food. If you’re thinking of having the food delivered, don’t—this restaurant doesn’t offer delivery at all, so you’ll need to visit in person.
To get the best of what Fortune House has to offer, you can order either the Imperial or Peking banquet meals. These sets are perfect for two people and include soup, appetizers, and a main dish.
Uncle Roger would shout “Fuiyoh!” if he ate here—we’re that confident with the cookery here.
Pro tip:
Visit Fortune House early from Wednesday to Friday and on Sundays to enjoy the value for money early bird menu.

Need a place to work on your laptop during the day? Jackalope’s simple yet conducive interiors will inspire you, so stay for a bit longer.
Pro tip:
Jackalope transforms into a full-blown bar after 4:00 PM on most days, serving only drinks until midnight closing.
